In Thailand, 80% of dwellers have bank accounts, but only 5.7% of them are holding a credit card. Bank transfer is still the favorite payment method in Thailand, followed by cash on delivery. Pay via counter service at a cooperated sales site is another common payment option. The customer is eligible to pay a bill at any cooperated sales site by presenting payment code before the due day. There are many sales sites available, as a convenience shop (7-11, Familymart), supermarket( BigC, Tesco Lotus), Post office(pay@post), etc.
Credit/ debit cards, online banking, and E-wallet/third-party payment are three main online payment methods in Thailand. In terms of bank cards, VISA and Mastercard cards mostly occupy the entire market. For E-wallet, the most popular option is Paypal. While, Rabbit LINE Pay, AirPay and TrueMoney are becoming more frequently-used among local people. It is worth mentioning another cashless payment option, called PromptPay, which is sponsored by the Thai government. The system ties ID numbers and/or mobile phone numbers with bank accounts so that transferees can use these (instead of a bank account number) to transfer money.
